Every year for 2 weeks, DPGA, Panvel grounds vibrate and pulsate with immense energy during the Annual Football Tournament where there is a fierce competition amongst the students representing the four houses – Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald and Topaz. The league matches of the football tournament that started on 11th August, 2015 came to a close with a throbbing grand finale on 22nd August, 2015.
The competition had participation of students from 3 categories – Juniors Division, Inters-Division and Seniors Division. It was a tough fight in each category, with the winners celebrating victory and the runners-up contemplating their own performances or luck. The winning house in the junior division was the Sapphire House. In the Inters division Emerald House took the lead but in the senior division it was Sapphire House once again celebrating a moment of victory after winning the tournament. The awards for the best player of the tournament were given to Aryan Mewada (Juniors), Saurabh Jha (Inters) and Abhinav Sehlaniya (Seniors).
An interesting highlight of the event was the Staff versus Parents match which was a nail-biting affair. During the normal play-time total 4 goals were hit, 2 by each team leading to a penalty shoot-out. In the end, the Parents’ team won the trophy with a score of 2-1. The award for the Best Player of the match was won by Mr. Jagannath Radhakrishnan (Parent).
The tournament ignited team spirit and a feeling of sportsman amongst all – Students, Parents and Staff. One could feel the Joy, the excitement, the frustration and the aggression – in short, a sea of varying emotions running through all when a goal was hit or missed. The game brought out the best in everybody and assisted in further strengthening the bond between the students, staff and parents.
Like in the past, this year too we had a football match between our Alumni and Current Batch of students on Independence Day. It turned out to be a tough competition. Both teams fought hard to win, blocking the other team from scoring a goal leading to a penalty shoot-out. Neeraj Nair, IBDP2 current batch scored the deciding goal thus winning the trophy for his team. This has set the bar for the upcoming football tournament scheduled from 19th August to 22nd August, 2015.
The camaraderie before, during and after the match do create a bonding not only between the Alumni and the School, but also amongst the past and present students.
