DPGA – SB Competition 2018 was a thrilling experience to the DPGAians since it was the first time they had a Finale format that was 3-Rounds i.e. Regular, Buzzer and Rapid-Fire.
Mark Twain in his sardonic way remarked, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”
In our daily, depressing, monotonous routines it becomes impossible for one to relax a little and have peace of mind. So how does one actually enjoy themselves and think and do about something that is not related to work, which would be beneficial to our mental well-being.
It was that time of the year again, the most awaited and nail-biting event of the academic year. Sights of students carrying huge sacks of papers would greet your eyes each day.
A team of excited nature enthusiasts from the teacher and student fraternity of Dr. Pillai Global Academy set out on a trail to Sanjay Gandhi National Park, on 8th September, 2018. Upon reaching the venue, we were greeted by the eminent naturalist and wildlife conservationist, Mr. Mayur Kamat. The rest of the trail took us amidst nature, making us forget the concrete jungle of the ever-bustling city.
Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel staged a conceptual theme of “Global Village” on 4th September, 2018 in partnership with AIESEC, the world’s largest non-profit youth-run organization which is an international non-governmental not-for-profit organization that provides young people with leadership development, cross-cultural global internships and volunteer exchange experiences across the globe.

Everyone is probably aware of what happens in their surroundings and how an event affects one’s livelihood. What about world events? Do we really understand how global events / decisions of world leaders affect us, our family, our society and nation? The answer – doubtful, since the chain of events that leads to major decisions are complex by nature because of various local / global changes – small as well as big.
Astronomy is one of those areas of science where learning can be made very easy to begin on path filled with a lot of fun. It is a matter of great pride for us to announce that the students of the Dr. Pillai Global Academy, proved the above stated statement to be very true.

Environment Day Celebration
The environment day was celebrated in a unique way on Friday, 29th June 2018, in the school auditorium. The students of Early Years were made aware of ill effects of using plastic things in form of bag, glass, spoon and so on. This was done through a small skit by students and teachers.

It was a proud moment for Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel when it’s Grade 12 student Kabir Bhakta bagged the Silver Medal for Taekwondo Competition in the 63rd National School Games held from 4th – 7th December, 2017.
The games organised at Thyagraj Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, witnessed the clash of master players from all over the country.
Naval Band Performance held on 2nd December, 2017 at Gateway of India
As part of Navy week celebrations, the Indian Navy had invited our school to view the programme of naval band performance and tattoo ceremony at Gateway of India on 2nd December, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
28th November 2017, started with great excitement for students of grades 6-8, as they embarked upon a trip to ADLABS IMAGICA, an adventure park, situated at Khopoli. The students, along with a team of four teachers, started at 8:00 a.m., from the school premises. Everyone felt a rush of adrenaline, when the rides they were seated touched the skies or turned upside down completely.
We started our journey early in the morning on 26th November, 2017. We were a group of 31 students and 3 teachers of Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel.
We were all were excited and enthusiastic about the trip to Igatpuri and began our journey with full energy.
At around noon, we reached Dhamma Giri, which is one of the largest Vipassana meditation centres in India.
On Tuesday, 3rd October 2017, 35 students of the senior section of our School, got a wonderful opportunity to Visit INS Kolkata – a destroyer warship of Indian Navy. The journey to an adventurous day began early in the morning. We reached the Lion Gate and got to see the beautiful premises of the Naval Dockyard. At around 10 o’clock, after our breakfast, we started sailing into the open waters of Arabian Sea.
The biology students of grade 10 visited a nursing home and met Dr. Kanchan Divekar as an extension activity in the month of July. This activity was for an informal interaction with the doctor as an extension of the recently covered topic on human reproduction. The students’ questions were answered by Ms. Divekar. She also shared animation video on some of the procedures followed for treatment in her nursing home.
Saksham Sanjay Athavale participated in 11th World Taekwondo Culture Expo in which he received the Silver Medal in Poomsae and Kyorugi style held in South Korea on 18th July, 2017.

‘Art Logo Design’ – the Art Competition was organized by Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel on 11th and 12th of July 2017.
In keeping with the rapid changes in the field of education as an influence of technological advancements, the theme of the competition was The Role of Technology in Education.
Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel is proud of its students, Ishita Deshmukh and Kabir Bhakta who participated in Standard chartered Mumbai Marathon representing Young leaders for NGO Habitat for Humanity.
The department of Science, at Dr. Pillai Global Academy, heralded the Science quiz “DPGA Mastermind”, as a part of the National Science Day celebrations. The event entailed three rounds, for grades 1-8. Every round witnessed a nail-biting competition, that it made elimination and short listing very difficult. The teams that cleared the preliminary and elimination rounds, marched their way to the finale held on the 9th of February 2017.
‘Zero Garbage’ initiative by IBDP students of DPGA, New Panvel.
On the 68th Republic Day of India, the IBDP students of Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel, initiated their ‘Zero Garbage’ venture which is an extension of the initiative taken up by the Ex Municipal Councilor of Panvel, Mr. Ganesh Kadu.
All Work And No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy; After the intensive and exhaustive study and exam schedules the students of Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel went to Shangrila Resort and Water Park, Thane on 14th December, 2016. The students from grades 6 to 8 along with teachers left school at 8:00 in the morning. All the students of DPGA enjoyed the various fun rides and had a gala time till evening.
A trip can refresh anyone’s mind from their hectic daily schedule. So, to refresh everyone’s mind we decided to have a small trip to Pench which was organized by the Adventure group. It was a 5 days trip, that began on a pleasant evening of 10th December, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. Around 6:30 p.m. we reached the station where we had food and left for Nagpur. In the train, we played a few games and ate our dinner.
Visit to INS Tabar – 28th November, 2016
Guru Nanak Jayanti or Gurpurab is one of the most revered day observed by the Sikh community to glorify the tenets of Sikhism. Guru Nanak Jayanti commemorates the birth of Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru. Both in the literal sense and in essence, Gurpurab means ‘festival of the gurus’.
Senses lab activity was held in the activity room. All the classes of Early Years were taken to lab on Monday 25th July, 2016. Various activities were done in the Senses Lab. Some of the interesting activities conducted to explain the five senses were: Phone activity with the help of paper cup and musical instruments for hearing; children touched and felt the texture of various things like hard toys, soft toys, nets and poky mats to experience the sense of touch;

Just because it’s rainy, it does not mean that we sit indoors all the times. To quench children’s curiosity and explore the ways things look, feel, smell, taste and sound on a rainy day; the students of the Early Years Section headed out in the rains to have fun.

The source of knowledge is experience. At Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel, No Bag Day was conducted on 16th September, 2016 to enhance learning through experience.
After an exciting and successful trip to Karnala last year, we were very eager to arrange a trek again this year along with 10th grade, A-Levels, AS- Levels, IB1, IB2 students and our Coordinators.
Last year we couldn’t accomplish our goal of reaching the top of the mountain i.e., the Karnala Fort, but this year we were determined to do so.
To Adventure Is To Find Yourself Whole
A welcome break from the daily rigours of studies and classrooms came in the form of the three-day Panchgani Adventure Camp. The students of Grades 9-12 of DPGA headed to the scenic hill station on 29th January, 2016.

The annual picnic for students of grade 1 and 2 at Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel was held on 13th February, 2016 at Franav Farms.
The supporting staff of Dr. Pillai Global Academy had a fun-filled day on 7th February, 2016 as their Principal, Ms. Anjna Sahi arranged a day of outing for them at Franav Farms.

The staff of Dr.Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel, went for a picnic to Saguna Baug in the serene out skirts of Karjat, on 6th February, 2016.The teachers enjoyed a treat of fun filled activities such as flying fox, zipline and segway rides.
“To travel, is to live”! This one liner brings out the central idea of teaching students social studies. One such venture that helped students revisit the past was the visit to philately exhibition. This helped students develop awareness about different aspects of philately.
Fostering international mindedness and inculcating a respect for other cultures, is the backbone of international education. Students of grades 11 and 12, participated in a student exchange programme, at Spain. They had an insightful experience, that opened different doors of learning.
Swami Viveknanda’s birthday which falls on 12th January is celebrated as ‘National Youth Day’ or ‘Yuva Diwas’. This year the theme is ‘Indian youth for development, skill and harmony’.
Like in the past, this year too we had a football match between our Alumni and Current Batch of students on Independence Day. It turned out to be a tough competition. Both teams fought hard to win, blocking the other team from scoring a goal leading to a penalty shoot-out. Neeraj Nair, IBDP2 current batch scored the deciding goal thus winning the trophy for his team.
Ishita Deshmukh: VIIth standard student of Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel won the Bronze Medals in 100 meters sprint and long jump respectively at Maharashtra State Athletics Championship held at Pune.
Excursions are means of educating ourselves on how certain things work and how we rely on certain services. Grade 2 students visited the Local Post Office to post thank you letters to their parents. Students learnt letter writing as part of their English Curriculum and wrote a letter to their parents in the class.
Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel participated in a sports event organized by The Association of International Schools of India (TAISI) held on 15th, 16th and 17th January, 2015 at MIT, Vishwashanti, Gurukul, Pune. Around seventeen schools participated in the event.

A field visit was organized for Grade 1 students to a nearby Railway Station and Bus Depot. The purpose of the visit was to acquaint the students with the transport facility used by most of the people in our country.
On 5th January, 2015 introduction to the colour orange was done in the classes. The students were shown different objects in orange colour. On 6th January, 2015 the children learnt a poem about orange colour and they did different activities. In the Early Years Lower class finger printing of orange colour was done on the picture of an Octopus. Early Years Middle children did block printing on a cut out of orange Fruit.
Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel swimmers participated in the Karnala Sports Festival held on 25th December, 2014 at Karnala sports complex – Panvel.
As an initiative to nurture the spirit of International Mindedness amongst members of DPGA (New Panvel), family, an Inter-house Football Tournament was held with an innovative idea of the four houses representing famous football playing nations of the world.
The children of Early Years in an Interschool Sports Meet for the first time participated on Tuesday, 16th December, 2014 at Kandivili. This experience has helped the children to inculcate sporting skill in them.
Traversing the lofty hills and the splendid valleys of Himachal Pradesh, the students of Dr. Pillai Global Academy travelled to Kullu and Manali for their annual trip in the first week of October.
The trip was organized by Femco Tours Pvt. Ltd. and lasted for seven days. Kullu and Manali are truly a nature lover’s paradise.
Navratri and Joy of Giving Week Celebrations at DPGA, New Panvel.
Wednesday 1st October 2014, was a milestone in the life of Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel.
The students were provided an opportunity to celebrate Navratri with their friends, teachers and families.
Habitat for Humanity India is a Non-profit Organization that builds homes and provides housing-related services to low-income, marginalized families across India. DPGA, New Panvel is associated with Habitat for humanity from the past years. Two activities, Healthy Food Stall Day and 2D Art Competition, were carried out to support the cause of Habitat for Humanity.
Kids from Mahatma Sports Club competed and Won Medals at a State Level Gymnastics Development Competition held at Jawahar Vidyabhavan, Chembur on 14th September 2014.
To keep up with the school’s vision and mission, the teachers go beyond the traditional methods of education to ensure a strong foundation for the global citizens of tomorrow. We focus on development of multiple intelligences by providing subject based activity clubs and child centric education.
On 2nd September, the students of the Early Years Section visited the Ganapati Pandal in the neighbourhood. Apart from The children were briefed about the festival.
Our school conducted an outdoor art activity to enhance the observational skills of the student and bring it on paper through expression of art. The activity was conducted on 8th February, 2014 in the morning at Khandeshwar Cidco Garden. 40 students from Grade1 to grade 5 participated enthusiastically in the activity.
The students of Grade 3, 4 and 5 went for an overnight picnic to Lonavala and spent time at Zara Resort, on the 5th and 6th February 2014. They visited the famous Wax Museum, Bushy Dam, Chikki factory and the Jain temple. Children enjoyed activities like rifle shooting, creating handicrafts and conceiving an advertisement.
A local area art trip to Kalasti Village (30 kilometres ahead of Dahanu, on the border of Maharasthra and Gujarat) was arranged in the 1st week of January, 2014 (3rd, 4th and 5th January) for the art students for grades 9, 10, AS level, A level and IBDP1. They were accompanied by their Visual Art teacher, Ms. Aparna Mugwe and local artist Mr. Hareshwar Vanga.
