International Yoga Day 2019

21st June being International Yoga Day, Dr. Pillai Global Academy, in collaboration with SIBC (Soroptimist International Bombay Chembur) organized a yoga session for the sub staff (maushi’s) working in the school.

Stress being an unavoidable element in our lives today, particularly for the maushi’s, the school decided to organize a yoga session that focused on asanas and techniques to
relive stress.

Mr. Ashim Samarth and Ms. Deepika Samarth, reputed yoga trainers were invited to conduct the session on 21st June. The one hour session from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm proved to be an unprecedented success with the maushis gradually relaxing and even enjoying the session. Feedback from the maushi’s revealed that they were glad that they had learnt a few asanas and techniques that they could continue to use at home to relieve stress. The IBDP students,as a part of their service activities under CAS helped in the session, with Abhishek Rao thanking the trainers for sparing time from their busy schedule and promoting the greater good. The Director, Dr. Latha Venkataraman who happens to be soroptimist herself warmly thanked the yoga trainers and felt that SIBC had positively impacted the lives of the maushi’s in a practical way.Nearly 20 maushi’s benefited from the yoga session.

International Yoga Day 2018

DPGA commemorated International Day of Yoga on 20th and 21st June 2018, as show of our commitment towards this ancient Indian art of Health and Fitness.

On 20th June, we had our primary graders 4-5 practiced a few of the yoga postures under the expert guidance of Mrs. Rajalaxmi Rao, an experienced yoga instructor. The children very enthusiastically did standing and sitting asanas. After the asanas, the instructor, to relax their body and mind, made them chant a few ‘Omkars’ and then did an abridged form of shavasana. The next day, the checkpoint students (i.e. middle-graders 6-8) did the same sequence but the number of repetition of the asanas were more, since they could endure the stretching and pulling of the muscles for a longer duration.

When asked for a feedback of – ‘how they felt after the session’. Relaxed, fresh, calm, energetic – these were some of the words, both the groups responded with. The yoga instructor, too, mentioned that DPGAians did respond to the instructions quite well and she enjoyed the sessions, as much as the participants.

The day started with warm up exercises followed by asanas, pranayama and meditation. All the students from grade 1 to 12, the principal, staff and sub staff; everyone was a part of the celebration of Yoga Day. It was a beautiful sight to see each and everyone synchronously moving from one yoga posture to other.

Later, on Friday, a special assembly was organized to commemorate this occasion. A presentation by students explained the basic yoga related terms and also enumerated the various benefits of yoga for school children.

We, at DPGA, New Panvel, completely understand that yogic exercises are extremely essential to keep ourselves physically fit and mentally healthy to say no to ailments. Hence there is already some time per week allotted for yoga for students.
