DPGA Panvel – Annual Report 2013
This is the fourth Annual Report of Dr. Pillai Global Academy New Panvel. The school is on a steep growth trajectory – the student strength increased by as much as 66% during 2013.
To cater to the wide range of interests of the students, the school developed a streamlined system of academic and non-academic practices which have helped it to reach new milestones both in academic performance as well as in respect of extra-curricular activities.
The students of Dr. Pillai global academy registered commendable success in the CIE and IBDP results published by Cambridge International Examinations after the 2013 May / June examinations.
The IGCSE results were good with the topper Ria Munot scoring an A* in Mathematics and an A Grade in all the other subjects.
Aditya Rajagopal and Aishwarya Sridhar scored the topmost grade in all their subjects in the AS Level examination.
A level student Rashmit Singh Arora scored an A grade in all his subjects and Simran Wahi scored an A* in Mathematics and an A Grade in two other subjects.
Shraddha Bhojane topped the class in the IBDP examination.
The most notable achievement was the ‘First in the World’ position bagged by Aishwarya Sridhar in the AS Level Business Studies examination. Aditya Rajagopal, secured the first position in India in AS Level Physics and Chemistry examinations. He also scored the first rank in India scoring the highest across four AS Level subjects.
All our Grade 12 students secured admissions in reputed universities. Rajanvir Singh and Rashmit Arora secured admissions in reputed universities in the USA.
Activity Clubs: Many extra-curricular activities were introduced as activity clubs which met regularly during the extended activity classes. Activities ranging from instrumental music to aero modelling were introduced to students. Special resource persons were invited to interact with the students for this purpose.
Aero modelling Club was a tremendous success with our students, seven of whom attended the ‘Dare-to-Fly – Cadet Unmanned Aviator Course’ conducted by Aeroics Aviations Pvt. Ltd. Robotics Club was another popular club with participation right from Grade 4. The members of this club improved their skills and reached the final level in the Mission to Mars- Tricks Competition held at IIT, Powai.
Students were encouraged to participate in competitions to help them build confidence. Some of the internal competitions included debates, recitation, story tellingand other sporting, literary and performing arts events. Apart from fostering a healthy competition amongst the four houses namely Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire and Topaz, Inter-house competitions allowed all the students to participate in large number of activities in a stress free environment.
The school Pamphlet Making Competition got students to creatively design pamphlets to spread awareness about the need of an eco-friendly Ganesh Utsav.
Our students participated in Mathematics, Science and Computer Science Olympiads conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation. Yash Vijay, of Grade 3, won the gold medal in the National Cyber Olympiad for ICT.
Uber Rang, an annual Inter School Fest conducted by Mahatma Education Society saw the first positions in both the individual and group categories bagged by DPGA Panvel students. Ria Munot won the trophy for the individual event and the group consisting of Rashmit Arora, Akshay Rao and Aditya Rajagopal (AS / A Level students) won the trophy for the team event.
Mock United Nations: Students also participated in various Inter School Competitions including Mock UN sessions conducted by Singapore International School and Ecole Mondiale World School and gave noteworthy performances. These interactions proved to be valuable in terms of the learning brought back and shared.
Some of our students will be representing our school in Harvard MUN a mock UN session which will be conducted in the USA in January 2014.
Another notable achievement was the first prize in the regional Level in the All India Camlin Colour Contest won by Tanish Dalvi of Grade 1.
DPGAP students participated in various sporting events organised by District Sports Office of Govt. of Maharashtra Youth and Sports Welfare Department. Kavita Mishra- AS level student stood out for her excellent performance in Tennis, She qualified for the State level tournament which was recently held at NMC-Vashi.
Ishita Deshmukh of grade 6 made us proud by representing the Raigadh district at the Division Level Athletic Meet held in Mumbai.
The boys in the Under 14 as well as the girls in the Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 teams reached semi-finals in Table Tennis at the district level. In Badminton, boys in the Under-17 team reached quarterfinals.
DPGAP participated in the District Basketball and Throw-Ball Tournaments for the first time. Under-17 Girls Throw-Ball team reached semi-finals.
In the after school Gymnastics program at the DPGAP, budding gymnasts of New Panvel hone their skills. Many of these gymnasts have gone on to win competitions at various levels, notably amongst them is DPGAP’s Mohit Devani of grade 1 A who won the silver medal in the gymnastics competition organized by Tsukhara sports club, Chembur.
DPGAP is a regular participant in the MES Inter School Sporting Events, where this year DPGAP girls were the winners in the Under 19 Football and Chess tournaments. In Table Tennis DPGAP paddlers stood first in Under 14 girls category.
Basketball and Rifle Shooting were introduced for the first time in the MES Inter School competitions. DPGAP was the runner up in boys Basketball Under 14, Under-19 girls and Under-19 boys categories. DPGAP Under-17 girls were crowned as winners in the Rifle Shooting event.
DPGAP was adjudged the best school in sports among the MES institutions.
Social and Community Service :
The students of DPGA visited the NAB (National Association for the Blind) and participated wholeheartedly in cooking food, serving, washing utensils and cleaning living space. The students also arranged a few fun and musical activities for the inmates there.
Students of Grades 11 and 12 visited Usarli village to understand how the process of rice cultivation works. They had hands on experience in the tedious process of planting the shoot in the muddy field. They understood that the rice that reaches their tables is a result of hard work at many levels. The visit made the students sensitive to the gifts that come their way without effort.
Other Activities :
Students visited Nehru Planetarium and Karnala Bird Sanctuary as a part of their study tour to enjoy and also learn while having fun.
The management and teachers organized a grand function to facilitate the outgoing students of Grade 12.
During the Teach Teacher A Poem event, the children came up with poems learnt for the teachers.
Several events, like Shilpakar (Clay Moulding), allowed students to enjoy the wide range of creative abilities within the school premises.
T-GEMBA (Trans Global EMBA) students from Saint Mary’s School of Economics & Business Administration in the US visited the DPGA school as a part of the four day cross cultural business studies program.They enjoyed the cultural program put up for them and had a fruitful interaction with the staff and students of DPGA.
Events celebrated during the year included Grandparent’s Day, Teacher’s Day, Healthy Food Day, Onam, Rainy Day, Special Assembly and Hindi Diwas. Students enthusiastically participated in all these celebrations.
DPGAP is proud of its faculty of 56 dedicated teachers, 11 Non-teaching and 35 sub-staff. Some of their notable achievements included a national award bagged by the art faculty Mrs. Deepali Patkar. Mrs. Aparna Mugwewas selected as a judge in a national art contest held by Camlin Company. Ms. Amrita More, Ms. Medha Sahi and Ms. Deepica Sharma, participated in the district Women’s Basketball event and showed commendable performance.
DPGAP continues to strive to provide quality education, truly international in nature, to all the students under its care and to keep learning in sync with its mission of providing “holistic education based on new generation academics” that create “powerful global career options for our students”.
