Apart from commemorating victories, sports meets also aim at imparting lessons on sportsman spirit and camaraderie to children. Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel organised the Annual Sports Meet 2012-2013 on 22nd December at the school grounds upholding this aspect of sporting events.
Dr. Girsh Gune (MS), District Governor, District 3131, Rotary International was the Chief Guest of the Ceremony. The chief guest hoisted the flag signalling the start of the Sports Meet. After the inspection of the four houses Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire and Topaz by the Chief Guest, the March past and Oath Taking Ceremony followed. The oath was taken by Aditya Rajagopal of Grade 11 (AS Level) and the students solemnly pledged to uphold the spirit of true sportsmanship. The Chief Guest declared the meet open and then followed the arrival of the torch. Rajanvir Singh, an International tennis player (Junior Category) and a student of Grade 12 A Level) was the torch bearer. A colourful Flower Drill by the CIPP students preceded the track and field events. The day was filled with exciting victories and near misses for all the houses.
After the students’ events the parents and staff members also participated enthusiastically in the events scheduled for them. The trophy for the leading house was bagged by Sapphire house. Mustafa Vohra, Khadija Vhora, Paras Bhagat, Om Gurav, Fatema Vhora, Ashwin Jishnu, Tejal Borade, Daniel Hamilton and Ria Munot were adjudged the Best athletes in their respective categories. The day ended with a cheerful note, heralding the year 2013, also filled with promises for all the young sports enthusiasts.
